Alex Munoz at an outing. Funky lamps and funky vibes.

I’d classify this one as ambient/available light. Not natural light. There is more than a little prestige attached to these terms. Photographers who don’t use artificial light, who don’t use strobes, claim to value the superior quality of natural light. Photographers who wield battery packs and know the inverse square law and lighting ratios think those other guys are hippies too lazy to learn proper lighting.

I am agnostic. Some of my best portraits have been taken in natural light. Some of my other, equally best portraits, have been taken with strobes.

The common factor seems to have been more about the subject and subject-photographer rapport.
